Privacy Policy for 1WRD
1WRD is a speed-reading app for iPhone and iPad made by Fredrik Hilmersson (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what the app does with information, which is very little. The short version: 1WRD has no account, no analytics and no servers of mine. What you read stays on your device.
What 1WRD does not do
- It does not collect, store or transmit personal data to me or to anyone acting for me.
- It does not use analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking software of any kind.
- It does not require or offer an account, and never asks for your name, email address or any other identifier.
- It does not use the text you read, your reading statistics or anything else about you to train machine-learning models, and does not share such data with anyone who would.
- It does not sell data. There is none to sell.
Information stored on your device
To work as a reader, 1WRD keeps the following on your device only:
- Your library: the text of documents you import, their titles, authors, cover images and your reading position in each.
- Reading statistics: words read, time spent, speed per session, streaks and similar figures shown on the Insights screen.
- Settings: reading speed, typeface, theme, gestures and other preferences.
- Catalog sign-ins: if you add a book catalog that needs a login, the user name is stored with the catalog and the password, token or API key is stored in the iOS Keychain (or, when the Keychain is unavailable, in a file protected by iOS data protection).
This information never leaves your device unless you move it yourself, for example through an iCloud device backup or Finder backup, which are governed by Apple’s privacy terms. You can delete any document or catalog from within the app, reset statistics from Settings, and remove everything by deleting the app.
Network connections the app makes
1WRD only connects to the internet when you ask it to, and only to the address you chose:
- Web articles: when you enter or share a web address, the app fetches that page and, if the page advertises one, its preview image. The request goes directly from your device to that website. The website sees your IP address and a standard browser identifier, as it would from any browser.
- Book catalogs (OPDS): when you add a catalog such as Project Gutenberg or your own library server and browse, search or download from it, the app talks directly to that server. Your credentials, if any, are sent only to that server. The server’s own privacy policy applies to what it records.
- Buy me a coffee: the link in Settings opens buymeacoffee.com in Safari. Nothing is sent by the app; the page is subject to Buy Me a Coffee’s privacy policy.
The app makes no other connections. There is no “phone home”, no update check and no license check.
Share extension
The share extension receives the text, link or file you choose to share from another app and stores it on your device for 1WRD to import. It sends nothing anywhere.
Children
1WRD does not collect personal data from anyone, including children, and has no content or features directed at children under 13.
Your rights
Because I hold no data about you, there is nothing for me to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf. Everything is under your control on your device. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California or another jurisdiction with data-protection rights, those rights are fully satisfied by the fact that no personal data is processed by me.
Changes to this policy
If 1WRD ever changes in a way that affects privacy, I will update this policy, change the effective date above and describe the change in the app’s release notes before the change takes effect.
